The most critical part of a criminal case is the first contact with the police. In my twenty five years as an Attorney, both as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting  Crimes and Domestic Violence Cases and as a Defense Attorney, I have seen innocent statements given to the police upon being arrested being used as “Admission Statements” by the prosecutors to prove the charges or part of the charges with little wiggle room after being made.
I have seen a poorly prepared BAIL APPLICATION AT ARRAIGNMENT resulting in HIGH BAIL for the accused resulting in the person accused being incarcerated during the pendency of the case with the tragic consequences of forcing an innocent person into having to choose between pleading guilty to a crime that they did not commit and have a permanent conviction on their record for the rest of their lives thereby affecting their ability to get a job and support themselves and their families just to get out of JAIL or fighting to prove their innocence while in JAIL and loosing their freedom while they fight the charges.
